Women in Construction

JBM is delighted to share the success story of one of our learners in Construction.  Aimie Conaghan of Robinsons Group has successfully achieved a Modern Apprenticeship in Construction Contracting Operations (SCQF level 6).

Robinsons began manufacturing and supplying steel-framed buildings for the agricultural and industrial markets in 2005 and has gone from strength-to-strength since! From large-scale brewery projects on UK isles to sheep sheds for hobby farmers.  The team at Robinsons has the skills and knowledge to work with clients of all kinds, right from the initial ideas & drawings, through to handing over the keys once the project is wrapped up. The management team understand Robinsons would not be the success it is without their incredible employees which is why they are dedicated to empowering and developing team members, like Aimie, through relevant training courses.

Aimie Conaghan of Robinsons Group

Aimie has been an employee of Robinsons for over five years now, with the organisation readily encouraging her to develop within her role and the industry. Aimie began her time with Robinsons in the Industrial department as an Admin Assistant which was a natural progression from her previous studies at college in Business and Administration.  However, the more immersed Aimie became in her role within the vibrant organisation, she found construction tasks and subjects to be fascinating.  She looked to her employer for support and management readily made opportunity available in more construction focused roles allowing to move departments within the business to increase her knowledge.

Aimie now works as a Project Coordinator, dealing with projects from the beginning with foundation works, to steel erecting and finally completing the job with specialised concrete requirements. Aimie really is a shining example of success when considering the progression of women in construction in Scotland.  Scotland’s construction industry has so much to offer women and with examples like this, we hope to contribute to encouraging more women to consider this industry.

Aimie progressed through her qualification with the support of our occupationally competent Assessor Steven Wood who had the following to say about Aimie and her employer:

“Aimie was a dedicated and enthusiastic learner who provided excellent product evidence and worked hard to exceed the expected knowledge and understanding requirements within the Modern Apprenticeship framework.  Aimie’s employer was supportive and always available to support Aimie in her Apprenticeship journey”.

Aimie has confirmed she has just started on her journey! She is already on the road to a promising career in construction and is now close to gaining her lorry licence.  Aimie is also hoping to develop her role within the organisation further and undertake the Construction Contracting Operations (SCQF level 9) Modern Apprenticeship soon.  Aimie explained:

“The Modern Apprenticeship provided me with the opportunity to stand back and look at my role.  It allowed me to understand the importance of legislation, Health and safety and professionalism in the industry.  I want to thank JBM and my Assessor for all of the help and support I have been provided with during my Apprenticeship”.

Aimie’s employer, Robinsons, added:

“It has been amazing to watch Aimie progress during her time at Robinsons, and we are so proud of her for achieving her MA in Construction Contracting Operations. Completing this course has helped Aimie to flourish within her role and gain a great deal of confidence. We look forward to supporting her through further courses and to watching to expand her vital role within the business and in construction!”
